Dubai’s 15 Mega-Schools Educate 82,137 Pupils
Dubai’s private-school market contains 15 mega-schools with at least 4,000 pupils each. Together they educate 82,137 pupils. Their median average fee is only AED 13,137, but their median student-to-teacher ratio is the market’s highest at 17.7:1.
Scale does not predict price across the whole market
After matching 226 schools with both fields, the correlation between log enrolment and average fee is r = 0.01: effectively no linear relationship. Dubai has expensive large schools, cheap small community schools, premium boutiques and low-fee giants. Size alone is not a fee shortcut.
Scale is much more visible in the staffing ratio
For the 195 schools with a published student-to-teacher ratio, log enrolment and the ratio have a moderate positive relationship (r = 0.50). That does not mean every large school has large classes: the ratio covers the whole school and is not the same as a classroom headcount. It does mean staffing intensity generally falls as institutions get bigger.

What a family gains and gives up
- Scale can fund breadth. A large sixth form can sustain more subject options, sports teams and specialist staff because fixed costs are spread across more pupils.
- The personal experience depends on organisation. House systems, pastoral staffing and year-group leadership matter more than the total number on roll.
- Use the ratio as a prompt, not a class-size promise. Ask for the actual class size in your child’s year and for high-demand subjects.
- Check movement between sites or phases. Some large schools operate distinct primary and secondary communities that feel smaller than the total suggests.
Sources and method
Current pupil counts, average fees, curricula, ratings and staffing ratios come from the open DubaiSchools.ai dataset and its KHDA-sourced fields. 14 schools without a positive pupil count are excluded. Medians ignore missing fee or ratio values within each band. Correlations use the natural logarithm of enrolment because school sizes are strongly skewed; they describe association, not causation.
